There were many good ones but one of the nicest ones IMO was one that i didnt even take a photo off haha. It was a stationary brand which included a fox and a hare i believe. The color scheme was orange/blue i think.. if someone can get the name of that guy, please let e know since i want to know what thesis teacher he had!!

I had to actually go through two binding processes on this book due to my “hey lets experiment” mentality. If you look at the images in the gallery, what i first attempted was to put three rows stitches really close together and see if the book still became usable. The result was a pretty wobbly book…

So after that i decided that having this wobbly book would just annoy me to pieces so i decided to add a japanese binding lookalike to both sides of the spine, making the book nice and sturdy!

For the cover, i scavenged my whole apartment for something to use and found this Styrofoam board that had been lying in my closet for a good year now. At the time it seemed like an amazing find but 5 minutes later after i bound it together with the signatures, i realized that it didnt look as hot as i had intended it to be haha. Sooo i grabbed some coptic markers and coloured them in.

The end result? A book that looks like it has been vandalized by a whole kindergarden class LOL

Ill make sure i finish this sketchbook before heading back to school after summer. I think my next sketchbook will be coverless, just the plain signatures look pretty stunning by themselves!

Also ill probably document a more step by step process for the next sketchbook i make so that i can actually show how to make one… hopefully!

Hopefully ill get around to updating my website over the summer in periodic increments but there are no guarantees, my job currently eats me alive!

• Summer has started a few weeks ago and it feels great!
• I got into the Glasgow exchange program! OCAD sent the application to Glasgow to be approved so hopefully there wont be any bumps along the road
• Some of you might have heard that i met some SEO’s at the Rivoli pool hall and i might have had an summer internship, after some back and forth emailing, me checking their place out and saying that i could only afford to take up a paid internship, the whole thing ended up as a nay… so ill have to go and apply for some summer jobs real soon!
• Thinking of getting a haircut, its always good to go looking for a job with a fresh cut!
• I have been taking a bartending certificate course at the TIB institute for two weeks now, and its tons of fun! Its a four week program so two more weeks to go!
• The OCAD grad show is on thursday, thats gonna be interesting!
• Heard of Google Adsense? Well i have been debating for a long time now if i wanted to add it to my blog, and my verdict was no…! What i am going to do though is make another website more general website with online advertising. So a summary of that, paultseng.net = projects and personal blog posts while this new site will have tutorials, information, handy tips/tricks that i have learnt as a student. I think this second website will accommodate the general public more than what paultseng.net does.
• My hosting provider is currently WebHostingBuzz but im planning to change that to InMotion Hosting since they have a better plan for hosting two domains.
• I got Modern Warfare 2 on the PC.. damn that stuff is addicting haha. Also want to try out the Beta Starcraft 2 (it actually got an official release date of july 27, amazing haha)
• We did a major house cleanup a few days ago.. HUGE dust bunnies!

So ill try to update this site every now and then over the summer but if nothings happening, im probably looking for a job, bartending, gaming, drinking etc etc… you know, summer stuff!

I ofcourse had to make a portfolio for this application, in the end i made 4 different portfolio’s (all with the same artwork kept on tweaking it to make it look the best it could!). I have video footage of 3/4 of the portfolio’s. The one that was missing was the one that i handed in (just finished it on the day of the due date, meaning i didnt have time to record it lol) which led me to make a FOURTH portfolio, so that i could take a video of it

If i fail to enter Glasgow.. ill be applying for the next deadline but to Denmark! =)

Update: My school chose me as the student to go to Glasgow School of Art they sent my application to Scotland to be approved! Hopefully its a smooth process on their end also..!

Well we had a small halloween party at alans place and we all ofcourse had to dress up. I was kinda stumped on what to go as since i didnt want to go through the hassle of picking a stereotype (no offence but “normal” costumes only look good when well they are executed ie. a zombie with a lot of wounds!).

So after quite sometime looking around and pondering about what i wanted to go as, i ended up as air freshener (wunderbaum!)

Later on she asked if i could make her something and usually i dont make anyone anything if its on a “wanna make me something nifty” whim but since she is an old friend AND she put effort into sending me some amazing chocolate, how can i resist =)

So i ended up making this dolphin (it was initially a whale but turned into a dolphin!) Its hand sewed and stuffed + it has a metal wire for it to hang on stuff! Hopefully if i manage to get into the exchange programs, ill take a trip back to Norway, meet friends and of course give this dolphin!

The chocolate has arrived!

So the first place we went to was “O’Grady’s tap & grill”. Here we ate a bit and pre drank before the club, so this is ofcourse a gay bar and at 10pm “bear” night was suppose to happen! (Big hairy guys?) We stayed there until 11 and during all that time, we had not encountered one bear… i was kinda disappointed about that.. lol

Next was “The Barn” which was the gay club we went to after. At the entrance, we hear that the club has been split up into the normal club and a Caribbean side, we went to the normal side though… (Kinda wanted to check out the Carribean side also!)

Once we got in, it was pretty empty, i must say that when it peaked, the place was still pretty empty haha (probably due to the -19 outside!) The club had two floors, on the upper floor there was a pool table! When i wandered alone up there after tons of dancing, there was this one girl and me on the second floor so i asked her if she wanted to shoot a friendly game of pool.. what a mission and a half! I swear we couldnt figure out the coin combination for the longest time + we didnt have enough 25cents so she went downstairs to get some. In the end we DID figure it out (You had to put the looney and the two 25cents on the left side for it to accept it… By the time we figured it out, the whole crew had come up and it became a tag team match (me and tim VS Dorothy +this other guy. We lost btw xD

Also a bit later, me and Guru went to buy some drinks, he didnt have enough money so he told me to wait a bit so that he could take money out of the debit machine. He went to use the debit machine and he managed to put his card in the wrong slot! So his card pretty much got stuck in there, we tried using two other cards to slowly grab it out but it just kept on going more in! I started scavenging my pockets to see if i could use something to take it out with and thats when i came over a sticky note on my cellphone! (It was a memo for me to remember to meet Anson at OCAD at 9:45am!) I peeled it off, put in the sticky side of the sticky note, slowly slit the sticky note out and voila! The debit card came out with it! Yay for MacGyver skills? xD

Moving away from pool and debit machines, i was hit on by two different guys! That just made this whole gay experience worth while haha. The first time was when we were just normally dancing and this guy tapped me on the shoulder and said (I like your scarf, have you met my friend Chris) and he points to a guy standing right next to him. By this time Guru grabs me and we make it seem like im taken while Ness went to speak to Chris (not sure what you two were talking about but o well xD). Dodged the first incident pretty flawlessly haha.

The second incident started at the coat checks at the end of the night. Both Ness and guru had just left and i was “kinda” alone (there were these other people i had met which i dont remember the names of..!) that were with me. I saw that the coat check guy had gone and gotten a jacket without any ticket and there was this white guy (if i would guess i would say he was in his 30′s) walking up and this is when i said “Im guessing thats your jacket, right?” (This is what i SHOULDNT have done, i think he took an interest in me after that) Then he went with something in the lines of “how did you know” and we started to chit chat. I kinda tried to keep my distance but when i went out, he came shortly after and we started talking a bit more and thats when i said that im straight, just to break away from him lol. He didnt really stop, he then wanted me to swap #’s + he started to talk about his straight boyfriend and how he would love to have me join him them for dinner. I did some more “thanks but no thanks” maneuvers, and in the end he gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek while we parted ways… I must say though, gay guys are really friendly and probably tons of fun to be with but i highly doubt that im converting anytime soon!

After that i started 30min walk home which went faster than expected! And that pretty much concluded the night! it was fun xD

The principles we explored were by two images each were Contrast weight/Style | Rhythm/Repetition | Balance/Symmetry | Positive/Negative | Structure/Organic Grids | Texture/Tone | Order/Chaos | Proportions/Sizes.

Multiple sketches, revisions ++ were done until we pumped out this booklet (i believe we spent like 4 weeks on this) to really drill in these principles in our everyday designs!
